In the beginning, it was a way to put food on the table. Logging was in its heyday and it was crucial to keep timber-hauling diesels on the road. So, Boyd and Emma Gregory decided to provide a repair/maintenance service for these rigs and opened Southern Oregon Diesel in 1954.
As the years passed and the business grew, Boyd and Emma were confident that Southern Oregon Diesel was the legacy and future they would pass on to their sons. Then came the eighties. The timber industry was going through some major changes and many of the independent loggers, including their trucks, stood idle.
By that time the Gregory boys had taken a major role in the day-to-day operations of the business. They decided that if Southern Oregon Diesel was to survive, it would have to diversify. With that goal in mind, the boys employed the same strategy that their father, Boyd, had some thirty years earlier. Find out who your customers are and then provide them with the best service at the most reasonable price possible. The Gregory's plan was successful and today, Southern Oregon Diesel plays an integral part in keeping many local, regional and national businesses on the move.

Recently, we were pleased to see that one of our customers wrote an unsolicited letter to the FMCA's Family Motor Coaching Magazine, appearing in the January, 2001, Annual Membership Directory. The text of that letter, from Bob and Rosita Cox, of Chicago Park, California, appears below:
Dear Editor: Southern Oregon Diesel is the best company we have dealt with since we have been RVing. Last September, Southern Oregon Diesel serviced our Eagle coach and we were very happy with the work they performed and with the crew there.
This past November, as we were returning from our daughter's wedding, we experienced a problem that required repairs. We called David at Southern Oregon Diesel and that is when life became easy. We told him what happened and much to our surprise, he set everything up for the repairs. Even better, he located parts in his area that we couldn't have found ourselves. Then he delivered them to us and assisted in the repairs.
